ABOUT ME

I'm Luka Matthias Gruber, 20 years old and a self-taught artist from Graz. I realized early on that painting was more than just a hobby for me. At first, it was simple drawings, later I added color, until at some point I realized that art was both my profession and my calling. Today, it's my path, my language, and my motivation.

My works are created with oil and spray paint on canvas. I stretch each canvas myself because it's important to me that a work bears my signature from start to finish. I often begin with clear, monochrome surfaces onto which I place realistic motifs such as mountains, cars, urban scenes, or people in motion. These themes have long been my focus because, for me, they embody freedom, power, and aesthetics. I am particularly fascinated by the tension between calm and speed, between architecture and nature, between man and machine.

My development was shaped by the work "Grit (Cardinal Red I)," which marked my departure in a new direction. The theme of cars also runs through many of my works. For me, it is far more than an object; it represents dynamism, energy, and the beauty of technical form. I repeatedly return to the mountains because I find a kind of home there. I try to capture this sense of clarity and grandeur in my paintings and develop it further with my own visual language.

For me, art means freedom. It allows me to visualize personal experiences, memories, and emotions. It demands courage and consistency, but also the willingness to accept mistakes and learn from them. Every step in my process is part of my artistic approach and a further building block on my path.

For me, every painting is more than just paint on canvas. It is an expression of a search, an attitude, and a vision that drives me to move forward, take on new challenges, and continue to shape my own style.
