Luka Matthias Gruber, born in 2004 in Graz, has been drawn to art since childhood. Early on, he repeatedly returned to the same motifs that continue to define his work today: mountains and natural landscapes, alongside architecture and recurring human figures. What began instinctively later revealed itself as a consistent inner direction.

Nature plays a central role in his practice. Luka spends much of his time in the mountains and forests, where walking, observing, and direct experience strongly influence his work. Sketches and photographs taken during these moments serve as personal references that are later translated onto canvas. Mountains in particular represent freedom, calm, and imperfection qualities he actively seeks in painting. Architecture and human presence introduce a different challenge, shaped by structure, proportions, and careful observation.

Alongside his focus on oil painting, Luka regularly enters experimental phases. These are open explorations rather than fixed styles, allowing him to test ideas and impulses before integrating them into his oil works. His work is shaped by everyday impressions, conversations, music, and fleeting moments that resurface on canvas. He actively seeks honest feedback, valuing direct critique as a key driver of growth.

Luka is a member of the Steiermärkischer Kunstverein Werkbund, featured in its 160-year anniversary publication, and is mentored by artist Herbert Wallner. His aim is to sharpen his artistic signature and increase the visibility of his work across Europe, guided by intuition, reflection, and learning through experience.
